- There is a great deal of secrecy surrounding Heart of Obsidian, its main couple and the story. As a result, it has become one of the most anticipated reads of 2013 and has stirred up a great deal of speculation. Do you think this story will surprise readers?
We’ve now released a two chapter preview, so the name of the hero is known! (I won’t mention his name here, as I know there are readers who want to be totally unspoiled going into the book, but you can find the excerpt on my website: www.nalinisingh.com/obsidian.php).
I do think this is a book that holds many surprises, some of them brutal, yet at the same time, it brings together many threads that have run through the series, providing the resolution to more than one question.
- After such a pivotal book in a series, how do you move forward - keeping the story consistent with the series, but also fresh to retain reader interest?
This is an organic, changing world and the events of this book are staggering in terms of the impact they’ll have on it, which leads naturally to the next book. I want to know what happens now, and I think readers will too.
- In both of your current series, the Psy/Changelings and the Guild Hunters, fans have become rabid about certain characters. Have any obsessions with certain characters surprised you?
In the Psy-Changeling series, the Rat Alpha, Teijan, has a very vocal fan base. I think he’s a fantastic character, but I never expected him to gain such a strong following.
In the Guild Hunter series, Venom, with his viper’s eyes, is eerily sexy, but again, I wasn’t sure if readers would like that about him. From the emails and messages I get, they definitely do!
- Given the secrecy surrounding the plot of Heart of Obsidian, we won’t ask what comes next for the Psy/Changelings. However, your next Guild Hunter book, Archangel’s Legion, will be out in October 2013. This story focuses on Raphael and Elena. Can you give us a little bit more information about this one?
The book literally opens with angels falling from the skies in New York, and things just get worse from there—rivers of blood, vampires dying of disease, something terrible is happening, and Elena and Raphael are caught right in the middle.
The story also progresses their relationship, which has grown and changed over multiple books. It’s fascinating to see who they’re becoming together. There are fights, some angry sex, laughter, a ‘dance’, knife combat and more. This is a long book packed with action. Also, you get to see Ransom and Sara again, along with Deacon and Zoe. Plus Illium, Aodhan, and Naasir play strong roles.
Oh…and there’s a ball. Yes, Elena would rather be tortured by having her eyeballs scraped with sandpaper than attend another immortal ball, but what’s a consort to do…especially when it’s a certain scary-ass mother-in-law who’s throwing the ball? ;-)
For anyone who’d like to have a look, the cover and full backcover blurb are on the website: www.nalinisingh.com/legion.php The excerpt will follow once the book has been through edits.
