When I wrote Margo’s story, I made her a new detective at the local police department, taking a well deserved vacation in the Virgin Islands while trying to locate her long-presumed dead father, Zach. I based her back-story on a tour of the Police Department given to me by a friend who works there, a ride-along several months ago with a female officer, one stint at a shooting range with a cop, and several tales from someone who knows the world of a patrol officer. Little did I realize that my foray into the life of a police officer on paper would turn into reality.

My interest in law enforcement grew over the past five years and in May I became a US citizen. All this research turned out to be a cover for a dream of being a cop. So, recently, this author tested for the police force, getting through a written exam, a fitness test and a panel interview to receive a conditional offer of hire! Subject to a psychological exam, a polygraph and a background check, yours truly should be going into the law enforcement academy next January for five months.

Thank goodness I’ve used a pen name to write and publish. Much as I love the fact that I’m a published romance author, I do not want an entire body of male colleagues knowing about this side of my past. A little like Margo, next year will be a whole new beginning for me.

As such, I must say goodbye to the writing world for the time being. My imagination and typing fingers will be temporarily otherwise engaged.
