Series: Capital Kisses, book 1

Summary:
Being a woman in TV is hard enough, but when the boss is trying to derail Radhika O’Leary’s career from behind the scenes, she has to make sure every aspect of her work—and her life—stands up to scrutiny.

Of course, the double standard is alive and well and Malcolm Jones, the broadcast meteorologist known as “Colm” to his friends and “The Hurricane Hottie” to his fangirls, knows that fame can hurt just as much as it helps. When Colm moves to DC, he’s excited to work with Radhika—her professional reputation is sparkling, and so are the kisses they shared that one weekend over a year ago when he was in town covering a blizzard.

But when Radhika is paired up with Colm for a project, all she sees is a looming storm over her carefully constructed career. Sparks still fly between the two journalists, and if they’re not careful, lightning might strike and alter the course of their lives forever.

Review:
Radhika and Colm once had a weekend fling while stranded together in a blizzard, and then over a year later become coworkers. Of course, the attraction between them is still strong. This is the basic premise to Kelly Maher’s The Bridesmaid and the Hurricane, the first book in the author’s Capital Kisses series (there is a prequel novella, Blizzard Bliss which is a fun read). Overall, The Bridesmaid and the Hurricane is a smart and sexy read with plenty of sparks and a wonderful and lovely romance.

Radhika is a hard working and dedicated producer for a local news outlet. However, she has run into problems at work before due to the fact that she had a relationship with a coworker and was badly screwed over. It was in the aftermath of this breakup that Radhika had a one-weekend stand with Colm Jones - who was in the same business but didn’t even live in her city. So, Radhika is very conscious of herself at work and what things might affect her job. There are added problems because her boss is awful to her - truly awful and could be a huge potential roadblock to Radhika’s career goals.

Into this volatile mix walk Colm Jones, the news outlets newest meteorologist. Colm is fairly well known especially after having been dubbed the Hurricane Hottie by his many fans. But Colm is thrilled to see Radhika. He hasn’t forgotten about her and wants to renew their relationship. Because of her current situation, Radhika is very hesitant - and let’s face it, she isn’t entirely over how things transpired between her and her ex. As a result of this hesitancy, this one moves very slowly. Colm has to woo Radhika a bit before she agrees to date - and when she does agree to date, she feels it is in her best interests to try and keep their new status quiet.

Even though Colm and Radhika wait a bit to consummate their new relationship, there is lots of steamy sexual tension between the two, making this romance very sexy, even it if is subtly so. Colm and Radhika are both wonderful characters who respect each other. While Radhika doesn’t work directly for Colm (the work situation does get complicated), she is definitely in a subordinate role (mostly because of her AWFUL boss). Colm sees Radhika’s incredible potential and pushes hard for her to be advanced and for her to work on a special project with him. The boss causes all sorts of trouble for the two for a variety of reasons. She is seriously EVIL. But fortunately, the boss gets her just desserts in the end.

The Bridesmaid and the Hurricane is a delightful read with a strong, confident and capable heroine. Radhika is a standout, and Colm fits her well. The book is also a very strong start to a new series which centers around several women who are bridesmaids in another friends wedding. I am hooked on the series and can’t wait to see what Maher has in store for the next friend.
