RomBkLoveDay31SmallSo it is has been a great time this month talking about sex in romance novels. We’ve covered lots of topics, but probably not everything. But there is one more day in July’s #RomBkLove and I’d like people to use it for anything they think may have have been left out, any thoughts they have about sex in romance, or mentions of any sexy or erotic books they feel may have been overlooked. What did we miss?

One thing that I don’t think we talked about are those great erotic moments in books where there isn’t any physical intercourse. Things can be erotic and sexy without actual sex. An example of this for me is Way Down Deep by Charlotte Stein and Cara McKenna. This book is highly erotic and filled with so much sexual tension, but there is no sexual activity - in fact the two characters never actually meet face to face; the only communicate via text.

RomBkLoveDay30Small#RomBkLove Day 30 is all about sexiest beta heroes in romance. Alpha heroes seem to be the norm, especially in erotic romance, but beta heroes are something very special. Do you have some favorites to share with us? Not quite sure what the difference between alpha and beta (and gamma too) heroes? Here are some articles to read: Romance 101: Beta Heroes, The ABCs of Romance: The Duke of Slut, Mary Sue, TSTL and More!, and Alpha, Beta, Gamma or the ABGs of Romance Heroes.

I admit that more often than not, I am drawn to the alpha hero, but beta heroes are a wonderful breed of hero that makes it clear that the nice guy doesn’t always finish last - and that nice guys can be just as sexy as alphas.

#RomBkLove Day 29 Sex Toys in Romance

RomBkLoveDay29SmallFor #RomBkLove Day 29, we are asking about sex toys in romance? What is the wackiest one you’ve ever read? Do you have a favorite sex toy? Are there some you find ridiculous? Do you remember the first one you read about? Let’s talk about sex toys in romance.

I can recall that Susan Johnson’s erotic historicals were my first introduction to sex toys in romance: leather phalluses, glass dildoes, pearls, etc. Since then, I’ve read too many too count, but some definitely stand out. There was the time a hero put a tube of Chapstick up the heroine’s dark channel (I’m still not over this one). Then there is the time a hero suspended his lady love off of a Manhattan building in the winter for bum love, I have, of course, read about the more standard toys: vibrators, nipple clamps, floggers, etc.

RomBkLoveDay28Small#RomBkLove Day 28 is all about taboos. It seems like time cures all sexual taboos in romance. It seems like at one time or another on page sex, oral sex, and anal sex were all considered taboo or too hot for romance. However, these things are all pretty commonplace these days. Are there any taboos left? Anything that you think should still not be shown in romance (not counting illegal acts).

Taboo tropes have been in vogue for a bit with the step sibling craze (I still call FAUXBOO on this one). Priests (the Catholic kind) are hot as heroes right now and I’ve seen an increase in romances with daddy kink. Do you think there are any taboos left?

RomBkLoveDay27SmallSo for today’s #RomBkLove prompt, I was to ask people what sexual act, thing, activity, etc they would like to see more of in romance novels. This one started out asking about what kink people would like to see more of in their books, but I wanted to expand it. Looking for examples? When I posted about the prompt on twitter, Megan Hart immediately offered up dry humping - and I’ll admit that we don’t see much of that these days. So maybe you want to see something that has gone by the wayside as books get more explicit or maybe you want the envelope to be pushed more and see something like hate pegging (see Tamsen Parker’s story in the Rogue Desire anthology for some of this).
